Adam Urban (b. 1994) is czech drummer, composer and sound engineer.
Born to non-musical family, Adam started playing acoustic guitar at age of 8 fascinated by folk music.
Later he discovered hip-hop production & DJing. In high school Adam picked up drums and started to perform regularly.
As a producer:
First collaboration with MC Matheus resulted in acclaimed album Před prvním infarktem (2013), MC/DJ duo toured successfully for almost a decade (Hip-hop Kemp, Lucerna Music Bar, Festival Rosnička).
Under pseudonyme RENK produced 2 critically acclaimed instrumental LP's Forrest Drum (2013) and Magnificent Desolation (2014), both released on vinyl under independent label Humble Grooves (now Cream Sound).
In 2016 Adam produced 2 tracks for award-winning album Stromy v Bouři by czech hip-hop pioneers Pio Squad, featuring Kato (Prago Union) and Supa (Moja Reč).
2 years later was released vinyl Adam Urban & Aficionados - Ab Origine (2018), where live played instruments and digital production creates original blend of jazz, hip-hop and funk.
As a drummer:
Since 2018 Adam worked with bands The Myne (Jan Lichtenberg sr.), Aficionados (leader) and The Jay Dee’s (music of J Dilla).
In 2020 Adam teamed up with DJ Magič to record unique collaboration between drummer and DJ - Tribute to Fela Kuti and Tony Allen (2020).
Later that year Adam produced live hip-hop album for MC Matheus called Domeček z karet (2020), which features various musicians (Radimo, Roman Volf, Sofia-Tamara Schmidt and many more).
In 2021 Adam has started to work as a drummer in Prague, backing artists from different countries: Valentina Sandoval (Argentina), Roksan Mandel (Turkey), Dashi Stardust (Slovakia), Gabriel Guerreiro (Brazil), Marco Micelli (Australia) and many more.
In 2022 Adam toured Czech Republic as a member of Jasper Huysentruyt trio (Chile), with Nelson Arriagada on bass.
In 2023, latin-jazz-fusion band Hodinky was formed, played live session on national radio and released album called „Goodbye“ (2024).
In 2024, Adam established Adam Urban Group with Jakob Gunnarsson (Iceland) and Guillermo Acosta (Argentina), international trio focusing on modern jazz with elements from Latin-American music and folklore, released EP Momentum featuring guest saxophonist Patrik Vondráček.
Currently leading his own trio, with Benjamin Gonzalez on bass and Patrik Vondráček on keys.
Adam shared a stage with many local and international artists (Taras Voloschuk, Daniel Bulatkin, Nerez), performed in venues and festivals such as Palác Akropolis, Jazz Dock or Brazil fest Brno. As a session musician Adam recorded drums for various artists.
As a sound engineer:
Since 2010, Adam has worked as sound engineer for various companies (Česká umělecká agentura, Klub Lávka and more).
As a part of production team he worked with presidents, Hollywood actors (KVIFF) or famous artists and personas from Czech and Slovak cultural scene (Karel Gott, Lucie Bílá, Jaroslav Dušek and many more).
Currently recording and mixing audio books for Tympanum publishing company.
